Injury update on Yokohama’s Faf de Klerk

Yokohama Canon Eagles scrum-half Faf de Klerk will be available for selection for the Springboks’ Autumn Nations Series according to reports in South Africa.

The 32-year-old two-time World Cup winner, who joined Yokohama from Sale Sharks in 2022, was not considered for South Africa’s Rugby Championship campaign due to a quad injury.

South African journalist Hendrik Cronje has reported for Netwerk24 that the former Lions star’s rehabilitation is progressing well.

Faf is set to be available for his country’s end-of-year Northern Hemisphere tour in November.

The back-to-back world champions, who are bidding to secure the Rugby Championship title against Argentina on Saturday, will play Scotland in Edinburgh on November 10 and then England in London on November 16.

Rassie Erasmus’ side will finish their season against Wales in Cardiff on November 23.

Teammate Damian Willemse will also return for the Autumn Nations Series.

The fit-again utility back has been included in the DHL Stormers’ 29-man squad for a three-week European tour in the URC after undergoing surgery in May for a finger ligament injury.

Yokohama, who will also be looking forward to the return of in-form Springboks centre Jesse Kriel, opens their pre-season schedule against Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights at Kumagaya Sports and Culture Park Rugby Ground B on October 19.

The Kanagawa side will kick off their 2024-2025 League One campaign against Richie Mo'unga’s reigning champions Toshiba Brave Lupus at Nissan Stadium on December 22.
