Former NRL star aims to make it in Japan.. as a pro wrestler

Former NRL star Daniel Vidot is currently in Japan aiming to be signed up by one of the country’s top pro wrestling promotions.

Free agent Vidot, 34, who burst onto the scene as a teenager at Canberra Raiders in 2009, retired from rugby league in 2017 to pursue a career as a pro wrestler.

The ex-Brisbane Broncos wing walked away from a lucrative rugby career to sign a developmental contract with the industry-leading World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2018 and made his debut in November of that year.

Playing for Samoa

Brisbane-born Vidot, who represented Samoa from 2013-2015 and made 114 appearances in the NRL, was released in April and has since made two appearances in American promotion Total Nonstop Action (TNA) in August.

The former WWE NXT Title challenger is spending several weeks in Japan to hone his craft and network with industry professionals.

The 6ft 2in, 246-pounder, who briefly played in the Super League for Salford Red Devils in 2016, has recently been working in Japan with wrestlers such as Tokyo-based Australian Hartley Jackson who was one of his mentors in WWE NXT.
